13/02/22 - The Montagues and supports at Jimmy's Liverpool

Hi all, I'm really excited to write this blog post for you all because well. It was one hell of a show. Now, before I continue and you continue to read this. I must stress how every review of a gig, all my comments are honest. I enjoy many bands I see and they enjoy my company, yes, but some just don't pass my vibe check. But I still include them in my blogs simply because they could be someone else's vibe. 

The venue

Jimmy's. What can I say, it's a super awesome venue that I like coming to every single time. I have seen many amazing bands play here and that list is getting bigger every time. I get to use my student discount, which is rare, but mostly the reason why I'm always really tipsy is that £3.40 a pint is a bargain. I really enjoy coming to shows here the space is big and everything about it just pleases me. I even tried the photo booth this time, which is fabulous. This venue is down in my recommendations.

Hollows

The first band to come on stage was a band called Hollows. Now, I was already following these lads on social media before this show and had a listen to them beforehand too. 

I really really like what they produce. Their music is just too good for words. Their set was just brilliant and I enjoyed every second of it. I hope I can get to see Hollows more in the future as they are defo ones to watch. A must-see band!!! I'd love to actually get to meet them and let them meet me in person one day because they seem really lovely lads. I can't wait for more music and more shows with these guys. I am recommending this band to all my readers! Follow them, Stream them, Go see them. They are so worth it. I'm praying I get to travel around a bit for these guys too.

I wish Hollows all the best of luck for the future and I really hope I get to see them all again soon. Amazing set lads!! keep it up.

Alex Tracey

Next up was a lad called Alex Tracey. I hate to say it but I didn't enjoy his set as much as I thought it would. But I have to keep my reviews brutally honest to keep out anything that comes across as biased. As a solo artist with a backing band. They have a really amazing sound and their music is upbeat and does get crowds going. That's what I liked. What I didn't like was the huge entrance. It was okay yeah but maybe for a headline show rather than a support slot. I haven't really seen any support act do a huge entrance like that as I have been told by many bands if it isn't their show then there is no need for it. The job is to warm up the crowd. They had a fantastic set that did just that. Maybe I need to see a real headline show to change my mind. But for me, that was not the correct choice when opening up for such an amazing band. But who am I to judge. I just attend the shows and write these blogs for fun. However. I did get to chat to Alex after the show upstairs and he's a really lovely lad with a personality to match. There's no sign of any huge ego like I've seen in the past. Which I respect so much. No hate bro.
I wish Alex Tracey all the best for the future, and hopefully, the more I listen and the more I get to know him and his backing band. The next review won't be so harsh. Hopefully, this one wasn't like that because like I said earlier. The set they did was wicked and I really liked it. Keep it up pal and see you at a show soon.

The Montagues

The final band of the evening was the headliners The Montagues. Who just brought out the most amazing set of all time since first seeing them back in October. I'm so glad I went to Focus Wales that day, because I wouldn't have come across such an amazing band. Their set was just full of bangers and it went off!!! So many people turned out and a few travelled from near and far to see this show. If you missed it, you've missed out. I had the most amazing time and I just let go and went wild to my favorite songs. Their new and unreleased songs are just brilliant, I am lost for words with these lads. What makes them even better is that every single one of them just loves my company, loves seeing me at their shows, and thinks I'm a legend. Which is the cutest thing to come from any band, and I take that compliment with honor. I copped a setlist for the first time, hopefully, the first of many. These lads are just the best and are in my top 10 by far (but no one can beat Hollywood Eyes... sorry 😝) I am really buzzed to catch another show and I'm super excited for the next one when I am free from my day job and can travel. I intend to go all over the UK for these guys, and hopefully, as they're from Wales, see more of that area too and hopefully travel all over wales and go crazy at every single show they do. The Montagues are so so good. Please 100% go see them if you can. Stream their music and play it everywhere. They are going to go so far!!! It would be nice to see more and more people at these shows. (and if you read this blog come and say hi)
