04/12/21 - Two Year Break live at The Deaf Institute, Manchester

04/12/21: Manchester

I'll start this blog post by saying SYKE!!! I made you all reading this think my last post was my last gig post of 2021. Well, it wasn't exactly. Last night (4th December) I got myself down to Manchester for the Hollywood Eyes lads again, because they are the actual best band in the entire world to me. Priceless and so genuine!!! I don't have many other gigs for 2021 but I might review any Christmas events I am attending this month to cover absolutely everything.

The Venue

The Deaf Institute Manchester.
The Deaf Institute is one of my favourite venues, I don't come here enough. I've been once before to a club night which was 70s themed and that was only because I knew the DJ!! It has 2 floors and a basement. Sadly there's no wheelchair access or no disabled toilets as I discovered this when I got my trusty radar key stuck in a keyhole because I didn't see the code on the door and didn't realise that it was a stock room!! But sometimes there's not a lot that can be fixed about being inclusive to all because of the age of the building or where it is etc. Apart from that, the venue is so lovely, it has a vintage feel to it and I was able to go sit in the bar on the first floor before the gig, which sells food and drinks at nice prices. The venue doesn't just hold gigs in the music hall either. They host club nights and DJ nights which are fab. The music hall is a nice space with a balcony area with seats and also there's seating at the rear of the room with fab views of the main stage area from every part of the room. I can't forget to mention the huge disco ball which is amazing!!! This venue gets my rating of a 7/10.

Hollywood Eyes

Hollywood Eyes

Hollywood eyes were the band I was intentionally going for but fell in love with the other bands too. These guys are my absolute favourite though, always will be. I reviewed their headline a few weeks ago if anyone wants to read that. But they're always going to be un-rateable for me, always off the scale. They brought a fab setlist and did a fab job on their set which I always really enjoy hearing live. I really don't care if I hear the songs about a million times, they're always the best and I am very excited for new things from these guys, like all the new stuff they tell me about. I have also booked a tattoo next month to have a part of this band on me forever because no matter what happens they'll always be top in my eyes and I'll be there forever. They do so much for me and made time to sit with me in the bar downstairs before doors opened. It's little things like this that I remember and it will stick in my head for a long time, and for that, I return the favour in making time for them, even if it includes phoning sick from work to attend shows. Seeing as Christmas is coming up, I made time to get everyone a card and a present to simply say thank you, thank you for bringing me out of a shitty time in life and getting me through a pandemic (thanks Spotify) and literally taking the time to be there for me and to just fucking listen to me and spend time, because not every band does that. 3 and a half years have gone so fast. But even if they end up with millions of fans in years to come, I'm sure they'll always remember the one who turns up to every show headline or not head to toe in merchandise. (that's me lol) The future looks bright for these guys and I can't wait.

Denova

Denova
Denova were next to perform and honestly, these guys are another band I hadn't heard of before or seen before but boy they are good. They sound like other bands I really like and this is always a bonus. They delivered a fab set which I watched from the back where I had a nice view and they are really going to go far!! At least I hope so anyway. They seem really nice lads who I'd love to see again. I would 100% find myself going to see them perform again and in time get to a headline show. I really enjoyed their music and I will be going off to find them on streaming platforms and see what they're like fully and then get out and see them in the new year. I wish Denova all the best of luck in the future and hopefully, we will cross paths again in 2022!!! A fantastic set and a pleasure to watch.

Two Year Break

Two Year Break
Two year break were the headline band of the evening. From London, these guys have an amazing sound and I really enjoyed their songs and they are such a vibe. I am currently sitting writing this section in a shirt of theirs and listening to their album on Spotify. I managed to chat and catch up with the band's lead singer after the show. He's lovely and was really nice to talk to and stood for photos. I really hope to see them again at another show and I am planning to get down to London and see them play on home ground one day. They have a really big fanbase and everyone had a great time and they attracted a fair few people many of who actually travelled up from London to see the show. I watched their set up on the balcony and had a mini head bop as each song grew on me more and more.
I am really excited for the future of this band I can't wait for the next album and all their plans they have for 2022 and beyond!! I wish Two year break all the best for the future and I plan to keep them on my radar for a long time.
